WebPeters anomaly is a disorder with a congenital defect in the posterior cornea, corneal opacification, iris adhesions to the cornea, and, in some patients, lens developmental abnormalities. PAX6 gene mutations have been found in some patients with this disorder as well as in aniridia and dominantly inherited keratitis. WebPeters anomaly is an uncommon pathology that affects around 1 in every one million people and is responsible for 40% of congenital corneal opacities. It may affect one or both eyes, although it is bilateral and asymmetrical in 80% of cases.
